Dave Smith is the lead vocalist for 4YG.
He is the eldest and the shortest member of the group and is often reminded
of it.
Q: What is your favorite kind of cookie?
A: There is only one kind of cookie - chocolate chip! Of course, I've been
known to eat Oreo Double Stuff, Vienna Fingers, Little Debbie Nutty Bars, the list goes on and on.
Q: Other than the Muppet Show band, who are your musical influences?
A: Hmmm, a close second is Led Zeppelin, Metallica, and Black Sabbath in
that order. Zeppelin got me out of rap in the mid-80s and Metallica turned it up
a notch because I wanted to listen to something different. No one except for the burnouts at school listened to Metallica and I wanted to see
what that was all about. I made a lot of out-of-clique friends that way. I then
discovered Sabbath in college and decided to take a trip.
Q: Its been said that you are the most talented member of 4YG. How do
you respond to such compliments?
A: Who in the hell would say that?
Q: When are you going to supercharge your Mustang?
A: I'm waiting for our bass player Jeff to steal me one from Roush. They're
too expensive for an unemployed guy like me to buy.
Q: How do you view the current music scene, locally and nationally?
A: Locally I don't pay attention to anyone but 4YG. I just want to be better
than any of the band's we're playing with on any given night. I guess
that's my firey competitive spirit coming out. As for nationally, nothing really inspires me anymore. A lot of the music sounds very smooth and
polished and somewhat void of emotion. Even the emo-bands are emotionless. If you're good looking and are highly marketable, this seems more
important than musical ability or talent. If Black Sabbath were to start up
today, there's no way they'd make it because they're all ugly!
